What is aesthetics?

Aesthetic treatments improve the appearance of common blemishes and signs of aging like lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and hollows.

Injectables are one of the most popular aesthetics treatments. They use substances that reverse the signs of aging when injected into the face or hands.

The advantage of injectables is that they fulfill the role of more invasive procedures, such as face and brow lifts, without the accompanying risk and discomfort associated with surgery.

What kinds of aesthetic treatments are available?

Botox

Botox is the original injectable aesthetic. It’s derived from the botulinum toxin and works by blocking nerve signals that contract facial muscles. This means the muscles relax, and lines and wrinkles smooth out.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are substances Michelle injects into the spaces between the facial tissue fibers to plump up hollows and firm the skin.

Your skin naturally loses volume and firmness as you age, partly because your body produces less hyaluronic acid — the active ingredient in many dermal fillers. Injecting hyaluronic acid under the skin is a natural way to restore a more youthful appearance.

Some fillers are designed to treat deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds on either side of your nose, and marionette lines at the corners of your mouth. Others treat age-related midface volume loss, where your cheeks hollow as you grow older.

Sculptra®

Sculptra is a biostimulator — a filler that promotes new collagen production. Collagen gives skin elasticity and plumpness, but like hyaluronic acid, your body makes less as you age. Sculptra helps you make fresh collagen to restore youthful skin.

Using fillers and Botox, Michelle can perform what’s known as a liquid facelift, where she sculpts the entire face. She also offers SkinPen® microneedling, an aesthetic treatment that stimulates healthy tissue repair by making multiple, tiny injuries to the skin.

How long do the effects of aesthetic treatments last?

The effects of Botox can last for up to four months, so you need to return to Luxx Aesthetics & Wellness Medicine around three times a year to maintain the improvement in your wrinkles. Filler treatments might last for up to two years.

In all cases, Michelle can advise you how often you need to return for follow-up treatments.
